Ireland Study Visa 2026: Stamp 1G, English Requirements and What Pakistani Students Should Know
Ireland offers 1-2 year post-study work visa (Stamp 1G), English-taught programmes, and no blocked account. Guide for Pakistani students 2026.
What does an Ireland study visa cost?
The visa application fee is EUR 100 (approximately PKR 30,000) — one of the lowest in Europe. Unlike Germany, Ireland does not require a blocked account. You must show EUR 10,000 for living costs plus annual tuition.
| Requirement | Amount | PKR Equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Visa application fee | EUR 100 | ~PKR 30,000 |
| Living costs (1 year) | EUR 10,000 | ~PKR 30,00,000 |
| Tuition (varies) | EUR 10,000–25,000 | ~PKR 30–75 lakh |
| Health insurance | EUR 500–800 | ~PKR 1.5–2.4 lakh |
What is the Stamp 1G post-study work visa?
Stamp 1G provides 12 months of work rights for bachelor's/master's graduates, or 24 months for doctoral graduates. It is open — any job, any employer. It provides a pathway to a Critical Skills Employment Permit (Stamp 1) for long-term residency.
Do I need IELTS for an Ireland student visa?
No, if your previous education was entirely in English. An MOI certificate from your Pakistani university is accepted for visa purposes. Ireland also accepts TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, and Duolingo.
| English Test | Ireland Visa Accepted? | Typical Score Needed |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS | Yes | 6.0–6.5 |
| TOEFL iBT | Yes | 80–90 |
| PTE Academic | Yes | 58–63 |
| Duolingo | Yes | 105–115 |

How does Ireland compare to the UK?
Ireland is cheaper (EUR 100 vs GBP 490 visa fee), has no Immigration Health Surcharge (GBP 776/year in UK), processing is 4-6 weeks, and Stamp 1G is simpler than the UK Graduate Route. Ireland also has no visa brake restrictions for Pakistanis.
Which universities should I consider?
Top options: Trinity College Dublin (81st globally), University College Dublin (181st), NUI Galway, University College Cork, and Dublin City University. Popular programmes include computer science, data science, pharmaceutical sciences, and business analytics.
When should I apply for September 2026 intake?
University application: January-March 2026. Visa application: June-July 2026. Processing takes 4-6 weeks. Start 6-8 months before your intended start date.
